Missions

The work focuses on the use of auto-vaccines for biodiversity conservation in bird species affected by infectious disease, notably the Amsterdam albatross, the yellow-billed albatross and the subtropical rockhopper. The aim is to contribute to the conduct of experiments and the acquisition of field data, the performance of laboratory and statistical analyses, and the exploitation of results in the form of publications and conferences. The work will involve field missions in the polar zone and the supervision of a team of field agents.

More specifically, following initial tests of a vaccine approach using autovaccines against the pathogen responsible for Pasteurella multocida avian cholera in endangered seabird populations, the aim will be to contribute to the continuation of the work in the specific context of an eradication plan for introduced mammals. Part of the work focuses on the eco-epidemiological context that may justify a vaccine approach as a means of conservation.
