Description

The position is to conduct research at IDIBELL. IDIBELL’s approach to disease is comprehensive, combining prevention, care, specialized training and research, all in one organization. We are a center of reference in Catalonia, both in healthcare quality and in research. IDIBELL provides equal access to and opportunity in its programs, facilities, and employment without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, gender, age, marital status, disability, public assistance status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

Project description:

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist wishing to further develop their scientific career within a dynamic and stimulating environment. The candidate will investigate the complex processes that regulate neurodegeneration in Parkinson’s disease under physiologically relevant measurement conditions. The successful candidate will join the group led by of Dr. Antonella Consiglio. Her lab conducts novel, cutting edge approaches and research tools to the study of neurodegeneration and complex disease phenotypes to discover new disease mechanisms and therapeutic targets. Her team focus on the earliest pre-symptomatic stages of Parkinson’s disease (PD), addressing what directs the transition to neurodegeneration, and will investigate mechanisms that are most likely shared across many neurodegenerative disorders.

For this purpose, we take advantage of the newly developed human cell-based model for PD based on iPSC derived from patients suffering idiopathic or familial forms of the disease, and healthy individuals as controls. The main goal is to undertake a comprehensive and multi-dynamic approach in order to investigate new molecular pathways underlying the earliest alterations occurring in patient-specific iPSC-derived DAn as well as the contribution of non-neuronal cells in producing neuropathological or neuroprotective functions in PD.

We offer a highly dynamic and stimulating international working environment, state-of-the-art research facilities, and expert technical support.
