We offer 14 PhD positions  for Early Stage Researchers (ESR) for three years to undertake research in neuroinflammation. Funded as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN) within the EU Horizon 2020 Framework Programme, ENTRAIN will undertake deep analyses of the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in macrophage-endothelial cross-talk and will exploit this information to develop new treatments of neurological diseases, such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis. We are using novel and emerging technologies, such as cutting-edge chemoproteomics, unique genetic and viral tools for targeting of defined cell populations, and high resolution intravital imaging. The results will impact on the understanding of neuroinflammation, but also on the rarefaction of vessels.

The PhD students will be hosted by 13 academic and industrial partner organizations in Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland. For further details of the individual projects in ENTRAIN, please follow the link www.itn-entrain.eu.

To be eligible for one of these posts, we expect a good master (or equivalent) degree (minimum upper second) in a relevant discipline of the life sciences (preferentially neurosciences, immunology, vascular biology, molecular or cellular biology). Research experience in one of the fields mentioned above would be advantageous. Good skills in English language are required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as a willingness to work flexibly and travel to collaborating partners. The successful applicants will be expected to register for a PhD and will submit a high quality dissertation for examination within 3 years of his or her appointment.

Each PhD student in the project will have a Personal Career Development Plan, designed with their supervisors at the beginning of the fellowship, covering scientific objects and training needs (including complementary skills). Each PhD student will be expected to have at least two secondments in academia and industry to another collaborating partner organization.
